The laser is a procedure widely used in Aesthetic Medicine. It consists in the use of a device capable of producing a ‘thermal effect’ that triggers a particular reaction in the tissues of the body. There are different technologies and types of laser, each with different advantages and characteristics.
Non-ablative fractionated lasers were developed for skin rejuvenation, without the drawbacks and postoperative CO2 laser. The principle of the fractioned laser is to save areas of healthy skin between the treated areas, facilitating and promoting faster healing from the spared areas.
The energy that is emitted by the Laser, besides acting directly on areas of aged skin, propagates laterally, leading to the heating of the deeper layers of the skin around, being a stimulus in the production, remodeling and contraction of the collagen, as well as in the increasing the density of the elastic fibers. As a result, it improves the elasticity, strength, and firmness of the skin, depigmentation with a significant reduction of the spots, decrease of sagging, smoothing of the texture, smoothing of the skin and evident lifting effect.
Non-ablative fractionated resurfacing presents good results in the treatment of skin photoaging. Other indications are atrophic scars, acne scars, and surgical scars. There are reports of the effectiveness of using this type of Laser in melasma, being the only Laser approved by the FDA for its treatment.
The great advantages are the speed of recovery and the minor discomfort during the procedure, which can be performed only with an anesthetic cream.
Three to four sessions are recommended, the results appear progressively with each application and the skin continues to improve until 6 months after the last session.
